2008

Our wonderful home on Orcas started the year dark and lifeless, while we awaited permits to begin putting it back together after a water pipe leak last August. With permit in hand, and drawing for the guest apartment we are adding on, we can now point to foundation work and soon, we hope, newly insulated, drywalled, and painted walls.

Working Life

Kathy continues to hold together the Seattle Mens and Womens Chorus in her role as Finance Director. The choruses just finished another year of amazing music, culminating in the Christmas concerts at Benaroya Hall. The organization is the largest choral society in the US, and the largest gay chorus.

Outside of work, she continues to spend time at the gym, keeping tabs on Jeopardy, and most importantly, serving as a family trustee on the Kaiser Family Foundation Board. Focused on global health policy, she seems to thrive on the challenges and learning opportunities they present.

Theresa now works in Redmond as a Technical Editor, editing documents for the world of ITPros. Easy commute in on the bus, great coffee from this amazing machine called the iCup.

And in the after-work hours, besides walking Green Lake and biking on the Burke-Gilman Trail (as weather permits) with Kathy, Theresa is still holding out for

Orcas Projects

We could show you the depressing photos from the water damage. We'll instead try to show the rebuilt home. Click here for photos.

Our Pets
The cats may never forgive us for bringing a dog into the family this past year. We took on a rescue dog from Atlanta GA, a sweet Australian Shepherd/German Shepherd mix, eight year or so old, recovering from being hit by a car in 2006. Molly has adapted to Seattle, even as we adapt to her. She mostly loves going anywhere in the car, so she's often along for grocery store trips or gym outings. I'll post a photo soon.

Travels for 2008

We will travel first to DC for one of Kathy's board meetings, then later to California. Outside of our travels for the KFF board meetings last year, we enjoyed Thanksgiving in Canada.

Visitors in 2007 included Larry and Anne, stopping on their way back from Wyoming. We look forward to seeing Larry and the lovely Amy, plus all the entire crew of Hannah, Jake, Sarah, and belle Anne this summer on Orcas.

Birds of a feather

Our Seattle feeder brings us chickadees, American Goldfinches, house and purple finches. I can hear, and occasionally see, the White Crowned sparrow, and we have lots of other transients passing through the yard.

We haven't seen small Cooper's Hawk that kept a close an eye on the feeder last year, however our winter Anna's hummingbirds visit the kitchen window feeder daily.

Our Skagit valley trips between the Greenwood house in Seattle and Doodlebug Hill on Orcas take us through a prime winter flyway.  Come on up for a visit and see for yourself!
