2010

Last year marked the full return of Doodlebug Hill, our cozy abode on Orcas Island. After roughly eighteen months of carpenters, painters, electricians, plumbers, paint paint and more paint, we moved back in and get to have real weekends again. We added an apartment, now occupied by our friend Sophie and her two cats.

Working Life

Kathy left the workforce this last year to concentrate on what she wants to be when she grows up....no rush.

Outside of work, she continues to spend time at the gym, keeping tabs on Jeopardy, and most importantly, serving as a family trustee on the Kaiser Family Foundation Board. Focused on global health policy, she seems to thrive on the challenges and learning opportunities they present.

Theresa still enjoys her work Redmond as a Technical Editor, editing documents for the world of ITPros. The commute in winter involves lots of carpooling and the Microsoft Connector bus service. Now that spring has been pelting us for, all right, all winter, she gets to bike to Montlake for the bike shuttle to Redmond.

After-work hours still include trips to the gym, walking Green Lake and biking on the Burke-Gilman Trail (as weather permits) with our Corgi (we'll post photos).

Orcas Projects

Time to rev up for spring!

Our Pets
The cats may never forgive us for bringing a dog into the family, first Molly (RIP) and then Rowan. She's just turned two this year, and is weighing leaving puppyhood behind. Tough, though, because folks will want her to stop chewing on things (like chocolates in my backpack), or jumping up on every visitor.

Travels for 2010

Kathy will be traveling to DC and California for KFF work this year, while Theresa races off to Texas for various family members.

Our big trip last year was to Key West for brother Walter Ballard's birthday. A week of biking and snorkeling in January!

This year: we mark 25 years together, so we will celebrate with a trip to Hawaii and spend a week hiking, snorkeling, eating, and playing.

Birds of a feather

Our Seattle feeder brings us chickadees, American Goldfinches, house and purple finches. I can hear, and occasionally see, the White Crowned sparrow, and we have lots of other transients passing through the yard.

We haven't seen small Cooper's Hawk that kept a close an eye on the feeder last year, however our winter Anna's hummingbirds visit the kitchen window feeder daily.

Our Skagit valley trips between the Greenwood house in Seattle and Doodlebug Hill on Orcas take us through a prime winter flyway.  Come on up for a visit and see for yourself!
